Vote Yes for Academic Excellence

May is a wonderful month in Rye. It is finally warm, the children are outside enjoying the sunshine, and flowers are blooming. May also brings the annual school budget vote giving us Rye voters the opportunity to make our commitment to our schools.

This year once again, the Rye City School District administrators and School Board members have presented the community with a tax cap-compliant budget that continues the academic excellence our community insists on and produces Rye’s extraordinary property values.

Eric Byrne, Rye’s Superintendent of Schools, speaks often regarding his commitment to fiscal sustainability for the District and this year’s proposed budget continues the District’s history of fiscal responsibility. Rye has the lowest true value tax rate of all our peer school districts. Rye’s per pupil expenditure is also much lower than the districts we most frequently compare ourselves to — Scarsdale, Chappaqua, Bronxville, and Harrison.

Likewise, the students of the Rye City School District continue their outstanding academic performance. Two hundred and sixty-nine Rye High students achieved one of the four AP Scholar distinctions while 150 High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society. The National Honor Merit Scholar program recognized 30 of Rye’s High School students. Rye’s students excelled in a wide variety of extracurricular activities as well, including athletics and the arts. We, as a community, had the opportunity to root for them and witness their talents in games and various performances we were lucky enough to attend.

On May 15^, we, as Rye’s voters, have the opportunity to go the Rye Middle School gym anytime from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. to support our schools, our students, and our property values by voting “Yes”. Please join me in doing so.
