By an overwhelming margin, Rye residents approved the two bond resolutions on the ballot, November 6. On the first proposition, Improvements to City Streets, the vote was 4,600 to 1,341; on the second proposition, Rye Free Reading Room Improvements, the vote was 4,460 to 1,458.

Mayor Doug French said he was very pleased with the bond results and the 3 to 1 approval on both. “To me, this was not just about passing the bond with a majority, but an investment that most City residents could get behind and support because the infrastructure improvements benefit all. Our careful planning, collaboration, and communication were fundamental to successful passage.”

Reached earlier this week, Rye Free Reading Room Director Kitty Little said, “It was terrific that there was overwhelming support for the library and City projects.” Little has been busier than ever the past two weeks because the library became a place of refuge after Hurricane Sandy, and extended its hours to give the community a place to power up or just sit back and read in a well-lit place.

Now empowered by the votes, the City and Library can go forth with much-needed improvements for all.
