Tyler Fernandez, a guard on Rye Country Day’s basketball team, scored his 1,000th career point during a game at Brunswick on February 7.

He became the first junior in the school’s history to reach the 1,000-career point milestone.

He finished the game with 1,006 career points by adding two free throws with 14 seconds left in the game to guarantee a 57-53 win. Fernandez finished the season with 1,063 points.

Wildcats Coach Torsie Judkins gave Fernandez the game ball. “In my 15 years of coaching, I have never seen a player more creative offensively,” Judkins said. “He is also one of the most passionate, dedicated and hard working players I have ever coached.”

“We are all proud of his individual accomplishments, but he is most proud of our team victories,” Judkins said.

“I am very thankful for everyone who I’ve played with and who have helped me get these points,” Fernandez said.

Fernandez knew he was close to scoring his 1,000th point, “but my dad wouldn’t tell me exactly how many I had.”
