Rye Country Day School’s football team ran over Roosevelt High on Saturday, 42-8, in a non-league game. The away victory upped the Wildcats’ season record to 2-1.
Tyler Fernandez scored twice for Rye Country Day. His first touchdown came on a 51-yard pass from senior Raishaun McGhee about 11 minutes into the game. McGhee threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to James McPhail for the only other points in the first quarter. Fernandez scored again in the second quarter on a 16-yard run.
Also scoring touchdowns for the Wildcats in the second quarter were Dylan Bronson on a 10-yard run and Tyler Miller on a 15-yard run. Miller added five extra points as the team’s starting kicker. Sophomore Eli Ratner scored the final touchdown for the Wildcats in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run.
Rye Country Day’s next game is Sunday against the Hopkins Hilltoppers in New Haven. Hopkins, also part of the Fairchester Athletic Conference, is 0-2.
