Thirty-six members of the class of 2021 at School of the Holy Child were inducted into the National Honor Society on April 26. The selection is based on four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. 

We include a sampling of their reflections and remarks at the occasion. The keynote speaker was Suzy Slattery, grade 12 lead advisor, who said, 
“It is fitting to celebrate your achievements as your time in high school is almost at a close, when you are about to embark on new adventures. Who knows where these will lead you and what you will accomplish? Making an impact can be a life-long plan or something that happens when one is not expecting it.” 

Julia Lane on Character 

“I used to imagine living in a fictional universe, in a world so much more exciting and ideal than my own. Let us try to be better today, tomorrow, and every day after that, to create the world we dream about, while enjoying the one we live in now.” 
 
Hannah O’Shea on Service 

“That one Midnight Run so many years ago was the beginning of it all for me. It taught me that we can all help. No effort is too small. As members of society, it is our responsibility to attend to the needs of others and the world around us.” 
 
Alanna Kelly on Leadership 

“By acknowledging our disappointments, we grow from them. Our failures do not weaken us, they strengthen us. Struggles teach leaders how to be resourceful, dependable, and quick-witted. If you have no problems, how do you become a problem solver?” 
 
Eliza Mills on Scholarship 
“What we explore and what we are curious about says a lot about us. I have been able to learn from the opportunities bestowed upon me at Holy Child. I have learned from the faculty, my peers, and my friends about what it means to be human, what it means to be curious, and what it means to be a good friend.”
