Dave Heller, who has done so much for the community in so many ways over the years, received the Jim and Marian Shea Community Service Award from the Rye Lions Club at their annual dinner at American Yacht Club November 14.
Among his many volunteer hats, he founded the Rye Golf Club Swim Team and initiated the Lions Club Athlete of the Month program. For many years he has served on the board of the County Swim Association and the Conference Championships of Westchester, which represents 45 teams from across the county. Last year, Dave was inducted into the Westchester County Hall of Fame for his years of service to the sport of swimming.
Currently, he serves as Treasurer for the Rye Lions Club and fellow members laud him as “the glue” of the organization. He is also a longtime Lector at Resurrection Church.
At the dinner, Dave’s wife Terry, son and daughter, and four of their 13 grandchildren, were there to applaud him, along with State Senator George Latimer, Assemblyman Steve Otis, Father Joe Lim, and many other longtime supporters.
