To the Editor:
I’m writing because as a resident of Rye who lives in the flood-prone Glen Oaks neighborhood, I was upset by the choice by the Rye Flood Advisory Committee to not attend the Flood Mitigation Advisory Committee special meeting in Mamaroneck on April 9. This was exactly the type of cross-town conversation and collaboration that is needed to properly address and counter the flood-related issues we face together indiscriminate of municipal boundaries. I can only speculate as to why no member from the Rye delegation chose to attend, but the result is damaging to the overall power of this collective action, diminishes Rye’s voice and position of leadership, and is deeply disheartening to myself and so many Rye residents who earnestly seek solutions.
The committee members should respond to the citizens of Rye and explain their absence. We deserve answers, and even more so, we deserve action to lessen the ongoing threat of flood conditions.
