With the scent of freshly cut grass in the air and the prospect of triumph on the horizon, Rye High School’s boys golf team is primed for an exhilarating season following its outstanding performance last year.
The team’s 15-2 record in 2023; its league title, atop a group that includes Harrison, Pelham, Byram Hills and Eastchester; and the eight Rye players who qualified for sectionals all have set a high bar for the team in 2024.
As the golfers prepare to hit the tees, fairways, and greens, the roster of returning talent includes senior Trent Bisceglia, juniors Eddie Molloy and Nate Allison, freshman Derek Bisceglia, and eighth graders Ryan Mascali and Ryker Kevorkian. With such experienced players leading the charge, Coach Pat Romano anticipates strong team performances on the links.
Romano said the Garnets will face stiff competition this year, particularly from Harrison for the league title and from Scarsdale for the Section I team championship.
The team commenced practices in mid-March, with more than 40 enthusiastic participants hoping to make the squad. The team’s first match, against Rye Country Day School, is set for April 8 at the Apawamis Club in Rye.
