Brava Dance has teamed up with a legendary Manhattan dance leader to raise money for college dance scholarships.
Jenny Hogan, principal of Brava, said she was approached by Joe Lanteri, the founder of the New York City Dance Alliance Foundation, and asked if her studio would be a “star supporter” of the organization. That means the group must raise $15,000 for the foundation.
The effort began on Jan. 28, when Brava hosted its First Annual Company Reveal, an opportunity to see pieces the company will be performing in the upcoming competition season. In addition, dancers from Brava will perform at the Joyce Theater in March, as part of the its affiliation with the New York City organization.
“There are many opportunities for athletes, but nothing really for the young artists, and nothing for dancers in particular,” Hogan said. “I am passionate about supporting the future artists and when Joe came to me asking me to support the foundation, I thought this is the perfect match. He has already established this incredible foundation, and maybe the best thing I can do is spread the word and help support it.”
Many Brava Company dancers have received scholarships through the foundation, Hogan said. For more information, contact Hogan at Brava Dance: 914-967-4545.
