Bernard George Cather, 63, passed away on January 29, 2020 at White Plains Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Evanston, Ill., on January 22, 1957, Bernie, as he was known, was the seventh of Donald W. and Maxine Cather’s nine children. The family moved to Port Chester, N.Y. in 1960, and, in 1974, to Atlanta, Ga.
Mr. Cather remained in Georgia, where he honed his carpentry skills. Returning to Rye in 2012, he continued his carpentry work. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed solving challenging crossword puzzles.
Mr. Cather was preceded in death by his father Donald, brothers Terry, Andrew, and Peter, and sister Jeanne. He is survived by his mother, Maxine of Coltons Pt., Md., his brother, Donald Jr. (Mary), also of Coltons Pt., his sisters Judy Kane (Richard) of Nashville, Martha McGuire (Jerry) of Rye, and Samantha Geiler (Willie) of Monroe, N.Y. He is also survived by eight nephews and 12 nieces, whom he enjoyed spending time with as well as nine great-nephews, five great-nieces, and a great-great niece.
