Ruth Lind McClure of Rye, N.Y. and Vero Beach, Fla., who had a successful interior design business for over 35 years, passed away on April 6, 2024, shortly before her 82nd birthday.
Born on May 6, 1942, in Orange, N. J., she was the daughter of Ruth (Good) and Gérard Kenneth Lind. She was graduate of Oak Knoll School in Summit, N.J. and Marymount University in Arlington, Va.
After careers in the fashion and textile fields, as well as the financial printing industry, she brought her considerable style and creativity to interior design.
Through her world travels, she satisfied her passions for art, architecture, gardens, and culture.
An avid athlete, she enjoyed tennis and paddle tennis, figure skating and skiing, and golf,
which she played for over 65 years, most of all. She won trophies at Essex County Country Club in New Jersey, Apawamis Club in Rye, and Riomar in Vero Beach, as well as several competitions with her favorite golfing friends in The Women’s Westchester and Fairfield County Golf Association.
In recent years, she became an accomplished bridge player, enjoying the competition and camaraderie.
She was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Douglas Ketchum McClure. She leaves behind her sister, Ann Lind Bowers-Matthews of Far Hills, N.J., and brother, G. Garrett Lind of Palm Beach, Fla.; her sisters-in-law, Dawn McClure Morton and Marilyn McClure Beck, both of Vero Beach; and many nieces and nephews with whom she enjoyed celebrating holidays and playing golf.
Contributions in Ruthie McClure’s memory may be made to the Apawamis Foundation (apawamis.org) or the MGA Caddie Scholarship Fund (caddi- escholarship.org), both of which she heartedly supported.
A celebration of Ruthie McClure’s life will be held in Rye in early June. Messages of condolence can be left on the guestbook at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
