Shortly after County Legislator Judy Myers announced Thursday morning that she is retiring at the end of the year, after four terms in office, Rye City Councilwoman Catherine Parker announced that she is running on the Democratic line for Myers’ seat.

Parker had been considering running for Mayor this fall, but she told the paper that she decided she could best serve Rye as a County Legislator.

“I appreciate the fact that Judy had faith in me and asked me to run for her seat, and I will work really hard to keep that faith, and the faith of my Rye constituents,” said Parker.

The Councilwoman said she is excited to bring all of her six years on the Council to the next level. “We have regional issues to be solved. I proposed the Flood Mitigation Committee and have first- hand experience with flooding. I have worked on Rye’s Playland Strategic Committee.”

As a small business owner for over 15 years and as former president of the Rye Chamber of Commerce, Parker said she has a collegial working relationship with many people, and is known for bringing a common-sense approach to business and Council meetings.

“I look forward to the election this fall, and to hearing from my constituents,” she said.
