Rye Boy Scout Troop 2 conducted its Winter Court of Honor February 11.

Eight Scouts were recognized for ten rank advancements:

A separate Eagle Court of Honor will be conducted March 21 at 2 p.m. at Rye Presbyterian Church to recognize Reid Bradt, Tom Hardis, Peter MacKenzie, and Grant Sundstrom, who all achieved Boy Scout’s highest rank.

Scouts were awarded ten different merit badges earned since the last Court of Honor, with Aviation and Swimming the most popular. Jose Latorre Jr. and his father, Chris Parker, and Scoutmaster John Tobin were recognized for completion of the Scout Strong challenge, improving their diet and overall physical fitness. Many other scouts and parents are following their lead.

Since the Fall Court of Honor, Rye Troop scouts have been actively camping, hiking, and improving their physical fitness. In November, a group of scouts completed a three-day hike on the Appalachian Trail, which included summiting Mt. Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts. In January, two scout patrols participated in the annual Klondike Derby. Luckily, the Derby coincided with a significant snowfall January 24. Over President’s week, a group of four scouts and three dads journeyed to Sea Base in Florida for a week of scuba diving.  

This spring, the Scouts are looking forward to a number of activities — rafting on the Delaware, canoeing and kayaking at the Agatha Durland Scout Reservation in Putnam Valley, and multiple hiking and camping trips. Over the summer, they will have the opportunity to attend a two-week camp at the Curtis S. Read Scout Reservation in the Adirondacks.
