Linda Mourer Hurst passed away peacefully on Feb. 20, 2024, at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y. She was 79.
She grew up in Enid, Okla., and graduated from Phillips University. For much of her life, she resided in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas. Mrs. Hurst was a beloved elementary school teacher in the Birdville School District for many years. After she retired, she moved to Rye, N.Y, to be closer to her daughter and family. In addition to being a wonderful caregiver for her granddaughter, she spent many happy hours vol-unteering at her granddaughter’s school, Rye Country Day.
Among her other pleasures were quilting, gardening, playing the piano, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and baking. All those who received her famed strudels at Christmastime considered themselves blessed.
Linda Hurst will be greatly missed by her friends and family. She leaves behind a son, Bradley Drummonds; a daughter, Linna Sica, her husband, David, and their daughter, Olivia; and a brother, Larry Mourer and his wife, Renee.
A memorial service will be held at Rye Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date in her childhood home of Enid, Okla.
Donations in Linda Hurst’s memory may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or Calvary Hospital in New York.
