Bikers, be happy. Danny’s Cycles opened recently at 10 Bowman Avenue in Rye Brook. The shop sells a large selection of bikes and accessories for adults and children and can turn around a repair job in a day or two. The store also hosts bike maintenance classes, group rides, and clinics with area biking associations and clubs.
“We are about as hands-on as we can get,” says Sean Ellwanger, manager, who is a mechanics specialist and also a road and mountain biker. Ellwanger rides to work every day and so do four of the seven store employees. “We want to be the shop that rides.”
The store prides itself on its service, says Ellwanger. Those who buy a bike at Danny’s Cycles will enjoy a free lifetime service plan that includes unlimited general tune-ups.
Danny’s Cycles supports bike advocacy groups, community programs, and events, such as the Bronx River Parkway Bicycle Sundays, where store mechanics help fix flat tires and perform other repair work.
Founded in 1967, Danny’s Cycles also operates stores in Stamford, Manhattan, and Scarsdale. The phone number for the Rye Brook store is 939-1150. There’s free parking in the back.
