On June 19, African American Cemetery Founder Dave Thomas addressed a crowd at a joint Memorial Day and Juneteenth commemoration at the cemetery. He showed off the stone restoration work done collaboratively by the Friends of the African American Cemetery, World Monuments Fund, Woodlawn Cemetery Conservancy, and Jay Heritage Center.
Descendants of families buried at the Cemetery were in attendance, as well as State Senator Shelley Mayer and County Executive George Latimer.
