What if you could have a fashion expert come into your closet, help you sort your clothes into wearable outfits, and then shop for the pieces that complete your look? Two local women are ready to do just that, having started Forleo Style, a personal styling business that will also offer personal shopping services and in-store fashion events.
Kerry Leonard, who grew up in Rye, and Tracey Forte, a longtime Rye resident, conceived of their business last summer during a three-hour car trip. Derived from the first three letters of their last names, Forleo also stands for “strength in style,” a nod to the meaning of Leo (from the Greek for lion, and Forte, which in Italian means strong.) Forleo aims to make shopping stress-free for its customers.
“Time is the most valuable asset for so many of us — we can give our clients their time back” by doing the legwork, Leonard said.
One of their many offerings is a private consultation to determine your lifestyle, budget, and color palate, as well as styles you prefer to avoid. After that, they can provide a “closet cleanout” and seasonal shopping where they bring pieces to your home (or send links) to complement your current wardrobe. They also can shop for specific occasions, like a destination wedding or upcoming event or trip.
The pair said they are mindful of clients’ budgets and can mix high and low pieces — for example a designer blazer with an H & M top — to keep from breaking the bank.
“We can help you save time and stretch your budget without sacrificing style,” Forte said.
Forleo Style also plans to support local retail shops by hosting in-store events that focus on more personal, curated experiences. During those events, Forte and Leonard will help customers pick items.
The two entrepreneurs come from different business backgrounds. Leonard worked in finance, but has always had a love for fashion. Forte started her career in corporate sales and development and taught fitness classes for eight years. She also was a representative for a women’s fashion line that was sold at trunk shows.
Forleo Style is building a social media presence on Instagram, where followers can find fashion tips and get style inspiration. (Of course, the looks on the page can be purchased.)
