Fritz Zahringer, a junior on the Rye High wrestling team, was the only Garnet advancing to Sectionals.
He was eliminated in the opening round of Sectional play, losing 13-11 to an 8th-seeded wrestler.
Zahringer placed second at the Divisional Tournament at Mahopac High School last weekend. Wrestling in the 152-pound weight class, Zahringer pinned his first two opponents but lost the final to Rob Gullo of Pearl River.
The Rye High wrestler is now 32-8 with an astounding 27 pins under his belt this season.
Coach Matty Beatty said Zahringer has been wrestling well all season. “It will be a very tough but exciting tournament for him. My goal for him is to place in the top six.’’
