White Plains Hospital is holding a series of health education programs around the community throughout May. This is the sixth consecutive year that the hospital has sponsored Wellness Through Prevention Month, which includes panel discussions, health screenings, cooking demonstrations, and outreach events promoting health and wellness.

“We’re committed to taking care of our community and that means not only being here to care for you when you are sick, but to help keep you healthy,” said Dawn French, Vice President of Marketing and Community Relations, White Plains Hospital.

On Wednesday, May 15, get those dancing shoes ready and head to Mulberry Street Italian Kitchen in White Plains for Wellness Wednesday. Join an Introduction to Zumba class, free of charge in the lower level of the restaurant from 5:30-6 p.m. Enjoy drinks and healthy appetizers from 6-8:30 p.m. With a $25 donation at the door, you will receive raffle tickets and two free drinks. Proceeds benefit the White Plains Hospital Wellness Fund.

Calling all Moms! Visit Brake for Breakfast on Wednesday, May 22 from 7-8:30 a.m. in front of the Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center at 2-4 Longview Avenue, White Plains (rain date Wednesday, May 29). Busy moms need to find time for breakfast in their hectic schedules, but the Brake for Breakfast morning will be open to all women who want to pull up at the Dickstein Center, pick up a quick and complimentary morning meal, and get the latest tips from trained professionals on breast cancer screening and prevention at the same time.

The month ends with a healthy Girls Night Out. The Health and Beauty Treats event will be held on Thursday, May 30 from 6-9 p.m. at Bloomingdales in White Plains. Attendees will have the opportunity to get reliable answers on important health issues from a panel of medical experts from White Plains Hospital. Topics include sleep hygiene, healthy nutrition, stress management, and high heel health. Don’t miss the “beauty bar” giveaways, including hand massages, goodie bags, wellness tips, custom drinks, and treats.

Registration is $25, which is returned to attendees in the form of a gift card to spend at the “beauty bar” that night. To register, call 684-6257 and leave a message with your name, phone number, and number of participants.

For more detailed information on any of the Wellness through Prevention month events, call Kellie King, Assistant Director of Community Outreach, at 681-1192.
