Joseph L. Checco passed away peacefully at his home in Rye on April 11, 2018.
Born on July 17, 1932 in Port Chester, he was the son of Antonino and Carmella (Zaccagnino) Checco. After graduating from Port Chester High School, he faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army.
He began his working career in 1957 with Microphase in Byram, Conn. In 1998, he retired from the Department of Defense, where he worked in quality control.
On September 8, 1957 he married Filomena Giordano at Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester. Together they raised their seven children. He dedicated his life to providing for his family. He enjoyed reading, golf, family vacations, bowling, and spending time with his family, especially his many grandchildren.
“Last year, for our 60th anniversary last year,” recalled Mrs. Checco, “our sons surprised my husband with a red Ferrari convertible that they’d rented for the day. He was overjoyed.”
In addition to his wife, Mr. Checco is survived by his children: Joseph, Anthony (Jeanne), Mary Chew (Brandon), Mike, John (Angie), Paul (Mary-Jo), and Christopher; and eleven grandchildren: TJ, Angela, Melissa, Steven, Michael, Connor, Brian, Julian, Isabella, Jack, and Maya.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 14 at Church of the Resurrection in Rye.
Donations in his memory may be made to the food pantry at Don Bosco Community Calendar in Port Chester, to which Joseph Checco was a regular donor.
