Morsels on Rye (10-7-11)

WEDDINGS

Garille — Julian

On July 30, John Anthony Julian and Lauren Redding Garille were joined in Holy Matrimony in a Nuptial Mass at Church of The Resurrection in Rye. Father Michael Ford, S.J. of The College of the Holy Cross and Boston College, officiated.

The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father, Leonard P. Garille. She was attended by her sister, Susan Higgins of Bethesda, Maryland; the groom’s sister, Diana Julian of New York; and her niece, Vivian Higgins, who served as flower girl. Sean M. Mullin, of Sacramento, California, was the best man.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard P. Garille of Waretown, New Jersey, and Estero, Florida. Originally from Southbury, Connecticut, she is a graduate of Hofstra University, from which she received a degree in Marketing. She is employed by Novartis Pharmaceuticals in New York City.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael F. Julian of Rye. He is a graduate of The College of the Holy Cross, where he earned degrees in Russian Studies and Economics. He is President of J.A.J. Capital Corp., and a Proprietary Trader at Rosenthal Collins Group in New York.

The couple is active in charitable pursuits, primarily through The Catholic Communal Fund, where Mr. Julian is a board member.

After visiting Lake Como, Capri, and The Amalfi Coast, the newlyweds returned to their home in New York.

D’Antoni Offers Scouts A Few Pointers

New York Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni spent time on the local basketball courts with the boys of Rye Cub Scout Den 1. He offered a few tips on shooting and emphasized the importance of enjoying whatever sport you play.

The coach, who lives in Rye, told the Scouts that he started playing basketball at age 8 and loved it from the start.

The boys in Den 1 are all fifth graders at Midland.

Engagements

Gonyo — Shipman

Mrs. Peter H. Shipman is pleased to announce the engagement of her son, Jerry Shipman, to Meghan Gonyo, the daughter of Peggy and Joe Gonyo of Goshen, New York. She held a party at her Rye home September 24 to introduce her future daughter-in-law and family to friends.

The future bride is a recruiter for AOL. The future groom owns and operates Eastside Billiards on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

A June 2012 wedding is planned.

Hitting the Trails

Giving back to the community is one of the things Rye Brownie Troop 1601 enjoys most. The girls, all second graders at Osborn Elementary, made it their mission this fall to donate goods to three local sites.

Last month they visited the Marshlands Conservancy, bringing tools for maintaining the trails. They also took the opportunity to learn how animals use the 151-acre wildlife sanctuary as their home base and as a refueling station on long-distance journeys. Wild turkey feathers and fiddler crabs were just two of the troop’s finds!

Their next two stops are Rye Nature Center and the Carver Center.
