9/28: Backpack leaf blower stolen from vehicle at Graham Court address. Owner’s deposition taken.

9/29: Milton Road resident reported unauthorized $1,300 check cashed from account. Statement taken.

9/29: The Ex-Nanny Files: Wappanocca homeowner reported her ex-nanny let herself into house as she and husband were interviewing replacement; verbal confrontation ensued. Statements taken.

9/30: Rash of car break-ins: homeowners on Hix Avenue and High, Wainwright, and Sanford streets reported overnight thefts. Various valuables taken. So were owner’s depositions.

10/1: New Mexico license plate stolen from Midland Avenue homeowner’s vehicle.

10/1: Forest Avenue resident reported 18-speed Schwinn bicycle, left in unlocked basement common area of multi-family home in June, gone. Police photographed graffiti in area where bike was stored.

10/1: Rear-end collision just before midnight: Black Chevy Suburban stopped at Boston Post Road/Purchase Street had light damaged by Volvo station wagon behind it. Volvo driver emitted strong alcoholic odor. What had she been drinking? Answer: “With dinner.” Where? “Out.” Subject “sagged, swayed, and staggered” over to area in front of City Hall for field sobriety test. During One Leg Stand, driver raised right foot and fell forward. Test abandoned due to her “extreme unbalance”. Walk & Turn Test became Stumble & Stagger. Arrested, Mirandized, read DWI warnings three different times; subject refused breath test each time. Summonsed, scheduled for Rye City Court hearing 10/11.

10/2: Port Chester man who rented Midland Avenue homeowner’s garage space reported tools missing that morning after he was given 10/1 deadline to clear them out. Homeowner denied removal.

10/2: Rye City Councilman found Motorola cell phone in south driveway of Resurrection Church.  Phone later claimed by owner. Who says government is broken?
 
10/2: Walden Lane resident reported finding soft brown leather briefcase, containing numerous items, on Greenhaven Beach, presumably left behind by trespasser. Placed in Locker E.

10/3: Purchase Street resident reported man in blue Nissan Murano attempted to lure her into car on Elm Place. Ducked into restaurant to avoid male, who was still there when she came out. Statement placed on file.

10/4: Uninspected maroon Toyota Corolla stopped on Peck Avenue; Norwalk driver not wearing seatbelt. Claiming to have no ID, gave officer phony name, address, DOB. NYSPIN revealed license plates belonged on another car. Vehicle impounded. Pill bottles in car showed driver’s real name. He confessed, “That’s me. I gave you my brother’s name because my license is all messed up.” It’s messed up even more now.

10/8: Grapal Street homeowner reported intruder attempting to get into rear of home. Police arrived to find Bronx man standing on second-floor deck of house. Placed in handcuffs, taken to Police HQ. Glassine envelope containing PCP found in pocket, blue pill taken from man’s underwear. Offender became combative, was placed in waist/ankle shackles. Bail set at $100,000 cash. Remanded to Westchester County Jail.

10/9: Sunday morning, HSBC customer reported finding “scanner” on the Purchase Street bank’s ATM machine. Officer pulled on card reader and an exact duplicate came off in his hand. Above the keypad, trim appeared to have pinhole in it. Pried off, transmitter and batteries discovered underneath. Good news: investigation revealed card information hadn’t been sent to perpetrator’s remote location. All other banks in town checked with negative results.

10/9: Local fisherman reported finding “bullets in the water” near Rye Town Park. When police arrived, Dearborn Avenue resident handed over case of .45 Colt ammunition (41 bullets) with saltwater damage. Who knew ammo could swim?

10/9: Locust Avenue homeowners awakened by intoxicated female, who began vomiting. Woman transported to Greenwich Hospital.

10/11: Veterinary hospital rendered services for pet of Tuckahoe woman, who claimed to have no cash or credit cards on her. Woman’s personal check grudgingly accepted. Next morning, bank informed vet that “stop payment” order was already in place. Once burned …

10/11: HSBC again: teller reported tall black female wearing glasses deposited check and withdrew funds from same account. After transaction, teller realized check was fraudulent and followed suspect, who began running toward vehicle on Purdy Avenue. Left behind copy of driver’s license, showing NYC address. Bank employees turned over paperwork.
