Locals with a sweet tooth can breathe a sigh of relief. Noble Pies, which shuttered its two-year-old Purdy Avenue bakery café in January, expects to reopen at 15 Purchase Street in mid-February.
“It has been so heartwarming to receive daily emails from people in Rye urging us to reopen,” said owner Leslie Noble.
The new bakery café will feature the same assortment of baked goods, coffees, and teas that were served at the old location, but the new space was available at a lower rent. The footprint of Suite 4 of the House of Hanover building is similar in size to the company’s successful shops in Warwick, Beacon, and Tarrytown, NY, Noble said.
A 2023 experiment with serving a broader array of breakfast fare was not successful and won’t be repeated in the Purchase Street location, she added.
As in the past, employees will drive to Rye from Noble’s bakery in Warwick, N.Y., three times a week to deliver pies, scones, cookies, and other treats. Noble vowed that the family-owned business will continue to get involved in various ways with the Rye community.
The next example of such activity: Noble and husband Tom Herman will give a pie-making demonstration and offer pie samples at a March 14 workshop at the Rye Free Reading Room entitled “A Trip To Ireland Through Noble Pies.” Last year two similar events at the library filled to capacity.
Noble said Rye is special to her, but it doesn’t stand out from the company’s other locations in terms of what sells best. “It’s almost sad because it is so predictable,” she said with a laugh. “Apple is the most popular sweet pie and chicken pot pie is the most popular savory everywhere we operate.”
Noble Pies has several lines of business. In addition to its four retail locations, it also sells direct to consumers through Fresh Direct and QVC and serves restaurants, country clubs, and caterers on a wholesale level.
