Need an “adjustment”? Call Dr. Stephanie Lord, owner of Active Chiropractic, the newest business in downtown Rye.

Dr. Lord has helped both weekend warriors and the desk set with their respective pains and stress-related problems for over a decade which can be found when you click to read about it. She had a successful practice in Toronto for nine years, before her husband’s job brought the family back to the New York area. The Lords moved to Rye 18 months ago. “We looked at towns from Stamford to Larchmont, but once my husband spent a few minutes in Rye he was hooked. This town has a real community feel.”

She would have opened her business, Complete Performance Chiropractic, here earlier, but she wanted to make sure her two young children, now 6 and 4, were well-acclimated.

“I took a year off,” said Lord in a recent interview. “I’ve enjoyed myself, taking a ballet class at the Rye Arts Center, playing tennis at Rye Rec, both of which we live a short walk from.”

On June 1, Lord opened her new practice at 31 Purchase Street, second floor.

Her special interest is athletes “because they are interested in performance and need to know their bodies well.”

After listening to a patient and doing a full neuromusculoskeletal exam, Lord gets to work on the root of the problem. “I like to correct the problem, treat the root cause — everything from shoulder problems due to sitting at a desk too long and in the wrong position to work and life stress to recovery after an accident or injury.” If you’re in Elsternwick and seeking relief from these issues, consider visiting one of the chiropractors Elsternwick.

Stress is a big cause of pain, Lord says. “It changes the way we sleep, sit, and feel, and has a direct impact on our nervous system.” She adds, “Each adjustment is another reeducation for the body.” She knows firsthand — “I get adjusted all the time!”

After Lord treats patients, they’re so relaxed that many are ready to take a nap.

She points out that chiropractors work on more than just spines. Lord has a Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition in addition to a Doctorate of Chiropractic.

You can reach her at 409-8385.
