Raymond Louis Barber, who lived in Rye for most of his long life, died May 29, 2018 in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

 

 

 

Born on July 20, 1934, he was the son of Louis and Edna Barber of Rye.

 


After graduating from Rye High School, where he played football and ran track, he enlisted in the US Army, serving in Germany, and then the Army Reserve. 

After military service, Mr. Barber became a Construction Engineer for the Local 137 International Union of Operating Engineers. He retired in 1996.

 

 

 

Ray Barber loved fishing, kayaking, watching the NY Yankees, and spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of the Rye Fish & Game Club and the Mamaroneck Elks.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eileen (Rice) Barber, and their three children: Ray (Helene) of Killeen, Texas, Tim (Mary) of Kinderhook, N.Y., and Sharon Nocito (Vinnie) of Port St. Lucie, Fla. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Rettenmeier.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 29 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at the Rye Fish & Game Club, 660 Milton Road.
