Spring training is winding down for Rye Country Day’s Wildcat lacrosse teams. The boys’ season opener is April 3, while the girls’ play their first game against Holy Child in Purchase March 29.

Coach Matt Rosolen and the Wildcats have their work cut out for them.

They look toward another season in the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) as well as a berth in the tournament of New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), an invitational that requires the team perform well in their local competition.

RCDS competes at Masters School April 3 and at Rye High May 5.

In FAA league play, the Wildcats open against Hamden Hall with an away game in Connecticut April 4.

The Wildcats also have league games scheduled against King School, St. Lukes, and Portledge. Beyond that, the Wildcats will also be facing a string of fairly distant boarding schools in Canterbury and Gunnery.

Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse

The Lady Wildcats take the field against Holy Child in their season opener March 29 at Holy Child.

This year, Coach Georgette Summers said she hopes to lead the girls through the FAA and NYSAIS tournaments and bring home a championship in each.

To accomplish that, they’ll have to defeat Holy Child as well as Fairchester Athletic League rivals King, Holy Child, and Convent of the Sacred Heart.  The Wildcats’ other lacrosse games are scheduled against Lutheran High School and Millbrook.
