Rye Country Day School’s field hockey and girls’ soccer teams earned No. 1 seed designation for the NYSAIS tournaments which begin October 30.

Rye Country Day School’s field hockey and girls’ soccer teams earned No. 1 seed designation for the NYSAIS tournaments which begin October 30. Field hockey finished regular season play 12-1 and soccer achieved a 12-1-3 record. Both teams suffered their only loss against rival Greenwich Academy.

The field hockey team, which was propelled to victory by top scorer Emily Duarte who had 20 goals and 10 assists, has a first-round bye. The Wildcats will play the winner of the Riverdale (No. 4) vs. Nichols (No. 5) matchup in the semifinals November 1 at home. Coach Georgette Summers credits her team’s success to “their high and consistent level of play throughout each and every game.”

The girls’ soccer team will play in the quarterfinals, at home October 30, against the winner of the October 29 matchup between Columbia Prep and Staten Island Academy. Even though the Wildcats’ star player, Stephanie Sabatini, suffered a season-ending injury midway through the season, the team has rallied. “Despite taking a little while to regroup, the girls are now playing the type of soccer that they are capable of,” said Coach Alin Andrei with pride. “In post-season, the team needs to continue their communication and combination play.”

The NYSAIS finals are November 3 at Manhattanville. The teams start FAA tournament play the next day.­­­­­­
