New York City glistens more than usual around the holidays. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade set the festivities in motion. Rockefeller Center just celebrated its 79th annual tree lighting. Cartier’s has been wrapped in a gigantic, red sparkling bow for weeks. Rye has a dazzling downtown of its own. On a stroll down Purchase Street, one can spy flickering lights, ornate wreaths, pinecones, nutcrackers, snowflakes, and velvety Santas.

Merchants put a lot of love into their window displays. Gallery 52’s Beverly Sansone infuses hers with old world charm. “I like to include things that bring back memories, hopefully good ones, so everything in my windows is vintage,” she said.
Speaking of vintage, Poppy’s Café paints a giant Christmas tree on its window.
For just the right ornament, table-topper, hostess gift, or seasonal pick-me-up, stop by one of Rye’s many new design shops — Hampton Whites, Nest Inspired Home, or The Open House. Wish and Twinkle Toes are bathed in twinkling garlands and vibrant poinsettias.
At Candy Rox, both Christmas and Hanukkah are sweetly represented. Canines in Santa hats are front and center at All Paws.
Greene Willow sports a mantle with wispy greens and quilted satin, fur-trimmed stockings, much as they would decorate their customers’ own hearths.
Downtown sparkles with holiday magic. Give Rye merchants the special gift of supporting them and shopping locally this season.
