Susan Gail Horsman passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 1, 2022, at the age of 80, in Greenwich, Conn.

Born in New York City on August 25, 1941, she grew up in the Rockaways. She and her family then moved to Pelham, N.Y. She spent her adulthood in Rye, N.Y., where she moved in her early twenties and raised her four children. She was very active in the schools her children attended, as well as the Rye community.  

The beach was her magical place. Her love for the beach began in her youth playing around the dunes and in the surf of the Atlantic Ocean. If you were ever at a loss on where to find her on a sunny day, the beach was the best place to start looking.

“Always up for a laugh and ready with a good joke, she had a knack for making those around her feel comfortable and welcome through her humor,” said her family. “She loved when her audience would engage and challenge her strong wit. She was never at a loss for something to say.” 

Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She was equally loving to their friends. She collected and saved numerous pictures and letters as a reminder of the special people surrounding her and her family. Her children would often be surprised to come home and see one of their friends sitting on the couch chatting or watching a good show after having dinner with their mom. She was always up for a good time, even if her children were not around.

One of Susan Horsman’s greatest accomplishments was her sobriety. She realized, twenty years ago, that alcohol was taking her away from her true self. Through sobriety she was able to move forward and help others who struggle with this addiction.  

She is survived by her daughters, Vickie and Hillary, and her sons, John and Brooks; five grandchildren; and her brother Tracy. She was predeceased by her parents, Virginia and Jimmy Quinn, and her brother, Paul.

A private memorial service was held.
