On December 12, over 650 Apawamis Club members, in black-tie and long gowns, gathered to celebrate the Club’s 125th anniversary at a historic ball.  The club was decorated with extraordinary tablescapes in gold and white to represent 50 years and 75 years, respectively. The elegant evening represented a grand finale of a yearlong celebration of Apawamis Club’s rich history.

Past and present Club presidents, including outgoing President Simon Canning and newly-inducted Bill Henderson, addressed the members to reflect on the incredible past and bright future of Apawamis, a club whose humble beginnings date back to 1890, when a group of men formed a social club for the Rye community. President Henderson noted that, “As we move into the next era of Apawamis, we look to a future filled with new and continued friendships and lasting memories.”

The special evening included a video, “The Apawamis Story – 125 Years of Memories,” narrated by sportscaster Tim Ryan; a slide show with photographs of celebrations from throughout the decades; live music, as well as a DJ for late-night dancing; magicians and mentalists to entertain guests; and a wonderful three-course dinner with a menu derived from past club culinary favorites. Additionally, families with three or more generations of membership were honored. Among those saluted was the Macy-Steers-Smith family, a seven-generation Apawamis family, whose patriarch, Josiah Macy, was one of the founding members.

The evening was one filled with camaraderie and historical significance.

Cheers to the next 125 years, Apawamis!
