Carver Center kids are staying warm thanks to The Children’s Hope Chest. This year they collected almost 900 new winter coats through their Coats for Hope program. Westchester families donated new coats, as well as hats and mittens to be distributed to children who are suffering from poverty, abuse, neglect, and illness.

Over 300 of these coats were distributed to Carver clients at a pre-Thanksgiving dinner event. Families were invited to enjoy a feast, prepared by Carver’s chef Gustavo Diaz, which included stuffing, cranberries, mashed potatoes, and, of course, turkey. Breads and desserts were donated by the Kneaded Bread and J. J. Cassone Bakery.

More than 50 middle school students from Purchase, Harrison, Rye Brook, Rye, Scarsdale, and Chappaqua volunteered at the event. They helped decorate, set the tables, greeted guests, served the food, and distributed costs to the guests. Additionally many parents volunteered.

Carver Center is the primary community-based organization in the village of Port Chester. The Center offers programs and resources designed to meet the educational, recreational, cultural and civic needs of children, youth, and adults, with a particular focus on meeting the needs of underprivileged youth.
