The Petition to Reinstate George Hogben
When Boat Basin Supervisor George Hogben Jr. tendered his resignation last month, there was community uproar. Why was someone who was making great strides improving the Rye Marina and working on ways to ensure long-overdue dredging being forced out? George is a stand-up guy who has contributed in so many ways to community life, noted all those who wrote the City Council and stood up at Council meetings.
In the last few weeks, close to 650 people have signed a petition asking for his reinstatement. Boat owners, slip holders, and longtime residents who’ve worked alongside George since he was a teenager, have expressed their unwavering support.
We were copied on two letters sent to the City Council, neither of which has received a response from the Council, and many others.
We encourage all those who do not want to see a good man treated badly nor the Boat Basin endangered, to visit ryerecord.com, read the letters, sign the petition, and write City officials.
