Thousands of Items Created and Donated for Local Charities During The Windward School’s Windward Parents Association CommUNITY Service Day  

 

On Saturday, February 29, The Windward School’s Windward Parents Association (WPA) hosted its 2^nd Annual CommUNITY Service Day at both Windward’s Westchester Middle School campus and Manhattan campus. At the event, 245 volunteers, including students and their families, along with members of Windward’s faculty and staff, participated in hands-on activities to benefit this year’s charity partners.

The Windward School’s Westchester campus in White Plains supported New Covenant Center, Adopt-a-Dog Animal Shelter, Meal-on-Wheels, and Leveling the Playing Field. Meanwhile, The Windward School’s Manhattan campus, located on the Upper East Side, supported New York Common Pantry, Best Friends Animal Society, God’s Love We Deliver, and Leveling the Playing Field.

Jamie Williamson, Head of The Windward School, joins WPA CommUNITY Service Day co-chairs Tami Mount, Susan Arditi-Adams, and Anne Louise Bostock. Nearly 250 members of the Windward community participated on two campuses to create and donate more than a thousand items to benefit local charities.

 

Thanks to this year’s CommUNITY Service Day at The Windward School, the following items were created and donated:

 

• 281 braided dog toys for dogs waiting
• to be adopted at Adopt-a-Dog Animal Shelter in Armonk, NY
• 2,400 care kits for New Covenant Center
• in Stamford, CT, to build dignity and self-sufficiency for people facing food and economic insecurity

• 81 laminated placemats Meals-on-Wheels
• of White Plains, NY, for neighbors in need of a warm meal
• 260 toys for cats waiting to be adopted
• at Best Friends Animal Society in NYC
• 2,026 care kits New York Common Pantry
• in NYC to build dignity and self-sufficiency for people facing food and economic insecurity
• 222 birthday cards for meal recipients
• at God’s Love We Deliver in NYC
• More than 50 pounds of used sports equipment,
• filling an entire trailer, for Leveling the Playing Field, which is based out of Maryland

 

“We designed this annual event last year with an incredible team of volunteers when we saw a need to bring our students together with their families to help others, promote goodwill, and create lasting memories,” said Susan Arditi-Adams, Co-President of the WPA.

 

“There is nothing better than seeing parents and students truly engaged with activities that give back to our local communities. Our CommUNITY Service Day is true quality time and an endeavor we hope to continue for years to come,” said Barbara O’Connor, Co-President of the WPA.

 

The event was coordinated by WPA co-chairs Anne Louise Bostock and Tami Mount at The Windward School’s Westchester campus, and by WPA co-chairs Susan Petrie-Badertscher and Wendie Lopez at the Windward School’s Manhattan campus.
