Virginia A. Callahan, a longtime resident of Rye, N.Y., passed away on January 11, 2021.
Born October 30, 1926 in New York City, she grew up in Upper Saddle River and Paterson, N.J. After graduating from St. Joseph’s High School in Paterson, she took courses at New York University.
She was an executive secretary at Time Inc. and corporate secretary at the Japan Fund.
She married Joseph M. Callahan in New York City in August 1959.
An active member at Church of the Resurrection, she was also past president of the Woman’s Club of Rye.
“Virginia had a zest for life like nobody else,” said her brother, George Beck. “She lived every day to the fullest. Even though we’ve lived in Florida for thirty years, she never missed coming down for my birthday.”
Mrs. Callahan was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 2001. In addition to her brother and his wife Joan of Ocean Ridge, Fla., she is survived by her nieces and nephews: Thomas Beck of Vienna, Va., Mary O’Donnell of McLean, Va., James Beck of Milford, Mich., Catherine Bergeron of Windham, N.H., and George Beck of Alexandria, Va.
A Funeral Mass was held at Church of the Resurrection on January 23. A celebration of Mrs. Callahan’s life will take place at a future date.
Donations in Virginia Callahan’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
