Would you like to improve your balance? Shave points off your golf game? How about slender thighs and a flat tummy? If the answer to any one of the above is an emphatic “yes,” then Pilates is for you. A new studio in town, Core Pilates, opened its doors in time to make New Year’s fitness resolutions come true.
Slupchynskyj is a certified instructor with 24 years of Pilates experience. She is also certified in Pilates for golf, which focuses on exercises to improve core strength with regard to boosting one’s swing control and body rotation. Generally, however, she believes Pilates is a mind-body exercise that benefits everyone. “You can even see how it builds a client’s self-esteem when they walk out of here.”
Located on the second floor at 22 Purchase Street, above Angela’s, the studio offers privacy and a quiet, comfortable environment. Three other certified instructors work with Slupchynskyj on all the state-of-the-art equipment, including six reformers that convert into towers and three versatile Wunda chairs for strength and balance. The studio also has a Pilates barrel, which is a “spine corrector” and stretching tool, as well as an electric chair, which Slupchynskyj calls “the booty blaster”. She explained, “It’s an incredibly challenging machine for your glutes, and it provides excellent results.”
“My growth as an instructor has tripled in the last few years. It has enabled me to work with breast cancer survivors, as well as with clients who’ve had hip replacements, fused discs, and knee issues,” she said. “Pilates teaches people how to function better with the changes in their bodies, so they have more control, more flexibility.”
