Rye Country Day School is offering a Summer Session for students who are entering grades 5-12 this fall. During the six-week program, gain academic enrichment, strengthen skills for the coming school year, or make up course credit from the 2011-12 school year. The program runs June 25 to August 3 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Classes offered range from courses in reading and study skills, writing, and math for middle school students to SAT preparation and math and science courses targeted to prepare high school students for the August NY State Regents exams.
One of the strengths of the Summer Session is the class size. A minimum enrollment of four ensures that students can benefit from peer interaction. And classes rarely exceed 12 students in any given section, so teachers can give attention to the individual needs of students. Further, the small class sizes mean that there is no chance for a student to “fall under the radar” of a teacher.
Students receive frequent, meaningful feedback in the form of regular informal and formal assessments over the duration of the summer. Parents receive progress reports midway through and at the completion of the Summer Session, as well as informal communication as needed.
Classes meet in the recently renovated Upper School building, which has SmartBoard technology in each classroom.
Interested students and parents are encouraged to visit the Rye Country Day Summer Session website, www.ryecountryday.org/summer or contact the Director of the Summer Session, Kyle Mitschele, at 925-4511 or summerschool@ryecountryday.org.
