History and fashion lovers braved the sleet and wind March 7 to enjoy a presentation on “Looking for Jackie: American Fashion Icons.” Fashion expert and author Kathleen Craughwell-Varda explored the styles of various American female fashion icons, with an emphasis on First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. She shared many colorful bits of history about fashionistas from Dolly Madison to Alice Roosevelt Longworth to Grace Kelly and Katharine Hepburn.

Her primary focus was on French-born American designer Oleg Cassini’s creation of the “Jackie-look” for the First Lady, and how that signature style transformed her into one of the major fashion influences of our time.
