Rye High’s Crew team took home gold, silver, and bronze medals earlier this month during State competition in Saratoga Springs.
Despite pouring rain, beating sun, and blowing wind, the Garnets proved their stamina and versatility against more than 1,000 rowers in 593 boats.
Rye’s incredible results are a testament to the depth and skill of the 50-member team and their dedicated coaches Stan Nelson, Jen Palermo, and Mathis Jessen.
The Senior 4+ boat won for the first time since 2009. Jim Palmer, Alex Martin, Max Bresolin, Grant Janart, and coxswain Ally Sullivan topped 30 other boats.
Rye won two silver medals. The Boys Jr 4x featured Brendan Faries, Kiefer Mueller, Ryan Costa, and Tristan MacHale; the Girls Jr 4x starred with Olivia Iles, Julia Davis, Claudia Hentschel, and Leslie Gallagher.
Placing third overall and second among high school teams was the Girls Jr 4+ rowed by Julia Davis, Leslie Gallagher, Olivia Iles, Amber Mustafic, and coxswain Amanda Nye.
Winning the bronze medal was the LW 4+ boat rowed by Reid Esler, Christian Pasqualini, Adam Rock, and James Hedge.

— Novice 8+ Sophia DeSantis, Nora Friedman, Chiara Biow, Maddie Pollard, Allie Pankoff, Claudia Hentschel, Hannah Krapes, Isabelle Hentschel, coxswain Samantha Carter were 5th overall and 2nd among high school teams.
— LW 2x duo of Aaron Na and William Dailey were 4th overall.
— LW 2x duo of Ally Sullivan and Amanda Nye were 5th overall.
— Jr 2x duo Mikey McGinnis and Jackson Burke were 6th overall.
