Emily Gorin, a Rye Country Day junior, has paired up with John Kennedy, Director of Golf at Westchester Country Club and the founder of Golfers In Support of Our Troops. Emily designed and manages the charity’s website. The charity donates new clothing and other amenities to families of those serving our country.
“I wanted to raise the charity’s profile and spread the word about its mission,” said Emily.
Fort Drum had 30 expectant families this past fall and Emily led the charity’s efforts in obtaining new cribs from a local merchant to donate to these families. The cribs were delivered right before The Catamounts were deployed to Afghanistan.
Major Sean Morrow said, “Some of the soldiers won’t meet their newborns until late next summer when we return, but the donation of the cribs helped the soldiers participate in preparing their home for the arrivals.”
Kennedy also helps veteran amputees learn to play golf. “I have great respect for those that serve and the sacrifices they make.”
Through Emily’s efforts, Golfers in Support of Our Troops has teamed up with Stew Leonard’s in Norwalk.
