Rain — and the threat of a tornado — did not discourage golfers from hitting the links for the annual Christopher D. Mello Golf fundraiser on October 7 at Apawamis Club. Most golfers were able to get 16 holes in before a heavy downpour suspended play. The action quickly moved to the clubhouse where everyone warmed up and enjoyed camaraderie and conversation.
To date, the golf fundraiser has netted over 1 million dollars for the Rye YMCA’s Annual Campaign, noted Executive Director Gregg Howells. “Thanks to the generosity of our players and sponsors, we are able to welcome all members of our community, even when they are experiencing financial hardship.”
This year, the Rye Y has already awarded $590,000 in financial assistance to families, adults, and youth.
