Julika Daniele Deck passed away peacefully in her sleep at Oceanview Memory Care in Falmouth, Me., on December 30, 2023. She was 82.
She was born during the early years of World War II, in Benedikt Bueren, Bavaria, Germany, on May 29, 1941.
One of the first places she lived after coming to the United States was Rye, N.Y. After she and her husband retired to Jamestown, R.I., she faced a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. For many years she refused to be limited by the disease. With her husband’s unwavering support, she fought hard to outrun, mask, and work around Alzheimer’s devastating impact until the end.
“Julika brought light, hope, peace, joy, and love,” said her family. “While Alzheimer’s eventually impacted her mind and body, it never dampened her effervescent, generous, courageous, and selfless spirit.”
In addition to Dr. Michael Deck, her loving husband of 60 years, she is survived by her sons, Dr. Marcus Deck and Julian Deck; her grandchildren, Caitlin, Anna, Nolan, Ambrose, and Viveka; and her sisters, Angelika and Connie. All will miss her dearly. She leaves behind a lifetime of friends in Rye and Jamestown. She was predeceased by her mother, Irene, and her sister, Alexa.
Donations in Julika Deck’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
