While the pace of life typically slows down around town in August, the Rye Y is as busy as ever.
On August 3 and 4, the Rye Y Togetherhood Committee once again teams up with summer camp staff and families for their annual food drive for Bread of Life. For a list of needed items, drop-off locations, and volunteer opportunities, visit www.ryeymca.org.
Through August 10, in partnership with The Sharing Shelf, the Y is collecting school supplies with the goal of filling 1,500 backpacks for children and teens. The collection bins are in the entryway at 21 Locust Avenue and at the Y Studios. For a list of needed items, go to ryeymca.org.
An important date to add to your calendar is August 9, Fall Program Registration day. Programs begin September 9.
Before the end of summer, make sure to stop by the playground that was completed this spring thanks to Rye High School student Matthew Pellegrini and his Eagle Scout project. He planned, fund-raised, and installed the playground, complete with maths playground games.. Matthew, who has been a member since childhood, is also a lifeguard at the Rye Y.
“We are so proud of Matthew and so grateful for his hard work on behalf of the Y,” said Rye Y CEO Sabrina Murphy. “His leadership serves as a role model for children of all ages.”
