Coach Jim Yedowitz said he decided to add seniors Aaron Matthias and Thornton Ellis to an already solid 400-meter relay team led by juniors Colby Ellis and John Tuttle in hopes of breaking the school record of 44.7.
“Not only did we smash the record that has stood since 1956, but we ended up winning the Westchester County Championship as well,’’ Yedowitz said. “Both the time and final place were shockers.”
Senior Ali Mackay also broke her own high school record, in the 2000-meter steeplechase, running the race in 6:55.7.
The Class B Championship was Friday May 25 and the State qualifying meet is Friday June 1 at White Plains High School.
