A century has passed since Mrs. William Rand gathered a small group of ladies together at her home on Forest Avenue for the first meeting of the Rye Garden Club. From the start, the group dedicated itself to “the advancement of gardening” and the protection of the natural resources of our beautiful coastal community. Over the years, Rye Garden Club has stayed true to those commitments. It is fitting that one of the first programs on record offered by the Club was on the relationships between insects and plant life. One hundred years later, they installed a pollinator garden at Edith Read Wildlife Sanctuary.
On September 24 and 25, join the Rye Garden Club for “One Hundred Years and Blooming,” a GCA Flower Show, at Apawamis Club. Hours are Thursday 3-5, and Friday, 10-3. The show is open free of charge to the public.
The Club will also hold a Centennial Celebration at Apawamis September 24 from 6:30-8:30. Tickets are $100. Proceeds will go to fund RGC’s many civic projects.
