As a lifelong environmentalist and former Chair of the Rye Sustainability Committee, I am writing to express my support for Mayor Josh Cohn in the upcoming Mayoral primary this June.
As Chair of Rye Sustainability, I worked with Mayor Cohn on several initiatives and projects over the course of two-plus years. While we did not always agree, particularly on the merits of Food Scrap Recycling curbside pickup, I always had a respectful and genial working relationship with the mayor. During our many meetings and phone calls, he was always well-prepared and had clearly done his due diligence on the issues at hand.
Thanks to his support, the City of Rye continued its status as a Tree City USA, a native planting plan was adopted and initiated at Fireman’s Circle, a no-idling awareness day was observed, and 24-hour, 7-day-a-week access to the Food Scrap Recycling drop-off site was preserved.
On a personal note, Mayor Cohn always extended the utmost respect to me and his extremely clever and fun sense of humor added a note of levity and enjoyment to any interaction.
