The Rye Youth Council’s 5th annual Rainbow Run for kids in grades K-6 went off with flying colors on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at Rye Town Park, with help from members of the Rye Police Department, the event’s Platinum sponsor. More than 290 kids engaged in pre-run fun by throwing clouds of colorful powder, dancing to DJ Diz, and warming up to Zumba. The Rye High School a cappella group, Rhythm on Rye, sang the National Anthem at the start of the run. Participants went home with goody bags full of cool prizes.
“We know that mental and physical well-being are equally important and that our youth need both to be their strongest, healthiest selves,” said Lisa Dominici, executive director. She noted that the Youth Council keeps mental well-being top of mind and achievable, and the Rainbow Run is one way to accomplish both missions.
“The Rainbow Run connects young people,” added Meghann Kelly, Board Co-President and Rainbow Run chairperson. “We know community connection is an important factor in keeping kids safe and healthy, and the Rainbow Run provides this while offering pure, messy fun!”
