Tagger-Epstein Would Be a Good Mayor
I support Danielle Tagger-Epstein to be the nominee of the Democratic Party for Mayor of the City of Rye.
Since 1976, I have been a Rye resident and a member of the Rye Democratic Party, forty-five years. I was a District Leader for many years and, in 1993, a candidate for City Council along with Carolyn Cunningham and Steve Otis. We were all defeated in that election, but Carolyn and Steve went on to distinguished careers as elected public servants.
Our current mayor, the incumbent candidate, is not a member of the Democratic party. He has been unresponsive to the needs of the retail store owners on Purchase Street. While some may appreciate his verbose emails, it appears to me that he abused the City listserv system to send personal messages, something he criticized our former mayor, Joe Sack, for doing. In my only personal experience with the mayor, he was unhelpful in my effort to improve the reservation system for the tennis courts at Rye Rec.
Danielle is an outstanding person of intellect, integrity, and accomplishment with a record of working across the aisle and getting things done for the community. She has helped get traffic and pedestrian safety laws passed to protect our residents. She chairs the Rye Human Rights Commission and has helped pass anti-discrimination resolutions to ensure equality for all under the law. She has also helped pass laws to provide funds ensuring that we have sufficient emergency medical services to keep our community safe. During her term on the City Council, she was always thoughtful and courteous. That’s enough for me.
