Photographer’s Journal
Our peripatetic photographer Jay Mahoney headed north this summer, to Barrow, Alaska, 320 miles above the Arctic Circle. On the North Tundra, the sun never set, and the temperature never got above 34 F.
On two nights, Mahoney was out past midnight in the snow and cold in search of treasured shots. “They were far from ideal conditions, but my reason for going there to see a number of bird species mate and they put on some amazing displays to attract mates,” said our indefatigable photographer.
