Rye Country Day’s post-season hopes are very much alive after the Wildcats won their sixth boys’ soccer game at home Monday against Fieldston, 1-0.
The Wildcats’ 6-2-3 season record places the team in third place in the Fairchester Athletic Association.
Rye’s first opportunity to score came with a corner kick, which led to a free kick from the 25-yard line. Billy Ostrau scored on an assist by Andres Soto.
With most corner kicks attempted by Tyler Kay, the Wildcats had many more chances to score, but each one either hit the post or soared over the goal. Ball control became more difficult once rain began to fall ten minutes into the first half. With minimal injuries on both sides, the teams played a rough game, with a lot of tugging and grabbing, and only one yellow card on a Fieldston defenseman. The Wildcats were fortunate to have the lone score once the game was called 12 minutes early due to heavy rain and increased darkness.
