Many food drives take place around the holiday season. Unfortunately, when the holidays end the wave of donations recede, but the demand still remains at places like the Carver Center Food Pantry in Port Chester.
In an effort to offset that loss, The Rye Rangers, Rye children’s hockey league, asked each player to bring a staple food item to every practice and game over the course of a week. The food was collected and delivered to The Carver Center Food Pantry on February 7. The drive was spearheaded by Rye moms Lynn Halpern Fogarty and Allison Chader.
The Carver Center operates the only grocery store-style pantry in the town of Port Chester. Eligible individuals and families shop once a month for three days worth of emergency and supplemental food, including fresh produce on a daily basis. The Food Pantry is open five days a week and serves nearly 1,200 individuals a month.
